In today’s competitive market there are thousands of suppliers and competitors. It is very difficult to gain an advantage over your competitors. If you are reading this article, you are probably trying to find ways to beat your competition. One of the things you can do is inject or apply new ideas to your existing business, something that hasn’t been done before.

Aside from trying to find a better, cheaper supplier for highly competitive dollar store items that are sold both online and offline, you can take a step back and think. What are some of the products that my competitors aren’t selling yet, what’s hot in another industry that maybe I can crossover with my current business? You can keep an eye on some of the latest trends and products that are on the market and see if there is anything you can do that is relevant to your business. Here’s an example, iPods and iPhones these days are super HOT. They all have iPods, not to mention that the iPhone dominates the smartphone market. You can think of accessories, some of these accessories have dropped so much in price that they can be sold as a dollar store item. That’s how it is! There are silicone sleeves, cable wraps, silicone earphone covers, etc. that can be sold at your dollar store.

This is just an example. You can apply this principle of taking what already exists on the market and putting it to good use. That is called creativity. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel or redesign an entirely new product. You don’t have a lot of starting capital. Just apply your creativity and try to come up with these ideas to make your business competitive. How excited would your customers be that you’re selling iPod or iPhone accessories for less than $1.00? They’ll even tell their friends and family how they got a great deal, something they typically have to pay $5-$10 for on eBay or other retail stores. Remember to keep an eye out for new trends and hot products, even if they don’t yet fit your business model. There’s probably something you can do with it in the near future. I bet Apple Inc, being a PC dialer all its life, never thought to enter the MP3 market and mobile phone market and be so successful.
