You can get great tax benefits when you have a home business in your RV. To do this, you must be generally active as a network marketer or Internet marketer. The best advice is to run your business from home in your RV with traditional types of work. By active I don’t mean full time, what it really means is that you can adjust your tax deductions based on how long you worked on your home business or business combination.

How can we achieve those tax benefits? Let’s say you start a network marketing business while traveling by motorhome. While you’re at camp, you can hand out business cards, post flyers, have a phone number posted on your RV or tow vehicle that people can call to talk to you about your business. Gather a group of people around the motorhome and tell them how you travel the country for practically free. Set up a table during market days at camp to display your product or provide literature about your network marketing business. I’m sure you can think of other ways to inform people about your business.

As we said before, there are tax benefits associated with doing business on your RV. The really important thing is that when it comes to claiming expenses and deductions for your mobile RV business, you need to record everything. The more records you have, the more likely your claim will allow it. You should discuss with your accountant or your tax preparer what records to keep and what the deductible expenses are. Most likely, the allowable expenses for home businesses are also allowed for an RV-based home business. Remember that the key to being able to deduct business expenses is to show that you are generating income while traveling. This is why I recommend combining traditional VR work with your network marketing until your network marketing produces a substantial income.

There are many ways to record your expenses. You can keep a travel log or journal or record everything on your computer. Complete your expenses every night; remember to include details about expenses. Don’t be greedy, just claim what is a legitimate expense.

What are some legitimate expenses you can deduct? If you have a website, you can deduct the cost of the site design, computer, internet connection, and server fees. Other expenses that you can afford are phone bills, a portion of your RV payment interest, travel expenses, conferences, meals, and entertainment while discussing business with potential clients. Again, I recommend that you check with your accountant or tax preparer.

There is a great book “Reduce Your Taxes” written by Mr. Sandy Botkin, an expert on income taxes, that I highly recommend you buy as a book or as an audio CD. In his book, Mr. Boykin states that “you have to be brain dead not to start a business from home.”
