Lebron James has the dribbling skills of a point guard and the physical agility of a power forward. He can dunk from almost the free throw line and also drain 3-pointers. There are few players of that category in the NBA. Kevin Garnett may be on that short list. Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson would be retired.

He was recruited out of high school and paid $90 million for a Nike shoe contract. He was one of the last great players to be drafted straight out of high school since they created the 19-year/one-year rule in college.

Lebron led his team to the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs. They lost, but that’s to be expected when your teammates aren’t there for you. He’s the top talent, he doesn’t have a Scottie Pippen, John Stockton or Tony Parker to help him. In the Eastern Conference Finals he led his team against the Pistons. He scored 50 points in one game to keep them alive.

He’s been waiting for a trade to Dallas or New York, but neither deal has been ruled out. It seems no one has enough cap space to pay for him. He would easily win a ring in Dallas or Chicago, but he wasn’t so lucky. It’s better that he has better talents around him. He can ask Kobe Bryant or Kevin Garnett about that miserable feeling. Just look at what happened once Garnett surrounded himself with stars – a championship, that is!

I mean, this guy led his team to the playoffs in his third year with the Cavaliers. He was averaging 30.8 points, 8.1 rebounds and 5.8 assists in that year’s playoffs. Talk about getting money’s worth from him.

James will have a better point guard this year in Mo Williams. Mo was averaging 17.2 points, 6.3 assists and 1.2 steals per game last year. If he can keep those stats up and give enough of them to James, the team will be doing a lot better. They still have Ben Wallace on defense to pick up the boards. They could still use a better shooting guard because Sacha Pavlovic isn’t very good. They could trade both draft picks for a good guard like Mike Miller of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

I think the Cavaliers will make it to the Eastern Conference Finals again this year. It will take a lot of grit and determination to get past the Boston Celtics, who are looking to repeat last year.
