If you are interested in making a career in the tennis field, you must be extremely fit. Playing three to four hours a day in extreme heat is not an easy task. Players whose fitness levels aren’t up to scratch usually retire mid-match. Because of this, their ranking doesn’t go up and they can’t participate in big tournaments like French Open, Wimbledon, US Open and Australian Open.

Tennis is a very difficult sport and therefore as a player you need to improve your game regularly. There are players who are good under certain conditions, but once they play in a different environment, they start to struggle. Not everyone can play like Roger Federer. He is an all-court player. On the other hand, there are players like Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer who are exceptional on slow, low clay courts, but not as good on fast, bouncy hard courts.

Generally speaking, tennis is played on a wide variety of surfaces. Includes:

Clay court: These courts are low and slow. To be successful on these courts, it is necessary to have a good forehand and backhand. Points are going to be long on these courses, so try to curb your unforced errors. Service is not an important factor in these types of courts.

Grass: These courts are quite fast. The points will not take long on the grass. Often two or three shots are more than enough to earn a point. Good grass court players have exceptional serving and volleying abilities. Since the grass court season lasts only one month, there are not many tennis players who are good on these courts.

Hard Court – If you want to reach the pinnacle of success in the game of tennis, you need to be good on these courts as most of the tournaments are held on hard courts. To become a decent player on hard courts, you have to be good in all departments, including serving, volleying, forehand, backhand, and drop shots. To earn free points on hard court, try to improve the speed of your serve. You can get fifteen to twenty aces on these courts easily.

Indoor hard: Like grass, the indoor hard season doesn’t last long. The good thing about playing on indoor hard courts is that the wind won’t affect your game. The nature of indoor hard courts varies from place to place. Sometimes the courts are extremely fast while in some cases they are slow and low.
