Many people don’t know how widespread adult acne is in today’s world. Some do not even know of its existence. Many thought their acne nightmare ends the moment they leave high school. How wrong they are! Adult acne is so common in the world today that it affects up to 50% of adult women and nearly 25% of adult men. Imagine the statistics and you will definitely be surprised why there are still so many adults who do not know that they can still be victims of acne. Maybe this group of people needs to be taught a lesson by growing a few pimples in the center of their face.

Let’s spare a thought for them. Since many people get confused about the difference between adolescent and adult acne. I will talk more about the three differences between both terms.

1) Adult acne is harder to treat than teen acne!

–> This is perhaps the most important difference between adolescent and adult acne that any acne sufferer should know. Teenage acne is basically caused by the onset of puberty in the body. It causes a hormonal imbalance which, as a result, leads to oily skin. It would eventually cause acne. More importantly, the normal teen acne sufferer has oily skin.

However, adult acne sufferers have both oily and dry skin. Different skin types have different treatments. Many OTC (over the counter) products cater to those with oily skin. Many or almost all over-the-counter products have the side effects of drying out the skin and making it red. This is because many of the commonly used and helpful ingredients in acne products include topical products, such as the more commonly seen benzoyl peroxide.

Therefore, many acne sufferers with dry skin find it difficult to find suitable acne treatment products. For this group of people, a moisturizer can be used occasionally to moisten the skin and reduce dryness. Fortunately, there are many treatments that do not require us to apply lotion to the acne blemish. If you have dry skin, NEVER overlook the effect of dry skin! Simply because if you have redness or swelling of your skin, it could cause further irritation on your skin and make your acne condition even worse.

2) Adult Acne Sufferers Are More Prone to Severe Acne

–>Reports have shown that adult acne sufferers are more prone to severe acne than adolescent acne sufferers. And between the two sexes, men tend to have a higher rate of severe acne compared to women, who generally have a higher chance of adult acne.

One of the reasons they are more prone to serious acne problems could be that many adults tend to treat acne lightly. Some might think that it would be a back and forth thing and for some, as I said before, they don’t even know that acne can occur in adults. In addition, adolescents with acne are usually exposed to greater social pressure. This could be partly due to puberty. Therefore, they would be more eager to treat their acne. If you are an adult with acne reading this, arm yourself with the proper knowledge before attempting to treat adult acne. Acne; or rather, adult acne is never a come and go thing. If you don’t take action, acne willpower to take action. Laying back and relaxing will only mean that your severe acne days are counting down. Don’t let the word “lazy” ruin your golden years.
